End of an era . . .
Submitted by Shannon on Tue, 04/14/2009 - 10:23am.Before "modern" became a category in childrens' products, before "organic" became a buzz word, before organic cotton became a possibility (too expensive!) -- Chris and I were designing and producing quality baby products with a fresh perspective under the label "Pixel Modern Pieces." As always -- made here in California.
Why, you ask, am I telling you this now? After many months of talking about it, I finally posted some of the last of an era items from "Pixel Modern Pieces" on our website. Find them in the "Close-Out" section.

Submitted by Shannon on Sat, 04/04/2009 - 9:54am.It was almost a year ago now that we locked the doors to our Bendix Building offices in downtown Los Angeles. It was a bit of a find and a hard decision to close the doors. Penthouse location, private roof access, natural light for taking photos -- you get the picture. But life had changed since we moved back to Los Angeles.

I am a theoretical crafter. I'm totally transfixed by those that make cool things and often have an "I could do that" moment; but rarely do I execute.
Contemplating "value"
Submitted by Shannon on Wed, 03/11/2009 - 4:51pm.I've been thinking alot about the word "value" both as a mama, a business owner and a consumer. In these unsure economic times it is more and more evident that we need to make sound and worthy choices. In other words choices that reflect our values. Value is more than dollars and cents. In fact it has less to do with the price tag and more with the entire chain of events leading to a product.

Speaking of clean . . .

"If every household in the US replaced just one bottle of 100 oz. 2x ultra petroleum-based liquid laundry detergent with our (Seventh Generation) 100 oz. 2x ultra vegetable-based product, we could save 460,000 barrels of oil. Enough to heat and cool 27,000 US homes for a year!
Just thought I'd share!
At first . . . overwhelmed!
Submitted by Shannon on Sun, 06/08/2008 - 11:01am.When we began our quest to convert all of our products to "certified organic" or sustainable materials I found myself a bit overwhelmed. There was so much to learn. And the more I learned the more I wanted to learn! I quickly accepted that for my sanity and realistic retention of information I was going to have to accept it as an ongoing project. That's when I found

I signed up for their RSS feed and check it out in bits and pieces. Perfect for parents who may only get 5 minutes to read at a time (unless its "the Foot Book" or "Hand Hand Fingers Thumb")!
